Fighting Transfemicide in the Americas

Exactly 12 years after trans activist Vicky Hernández was shot and killed in the streets for her gender identity, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights made a landmark ruling holding the state of Honduras responsible for her death.

The case, litigated by RFK Human Rights and our partners at Red Lésbica Cattrachas, is part of our ongoing efforts to stop gender-based violence and discrimination—not only granting families, like Vicky’s, with a measure of justice but establishing sweeping new protections so that others don’t have to suffer her fate.
